Biography
Councilmember Mario Enríquez (he/him/él) is honored to be serving his first term on the Stockton City Council, representing District 4, beginning January 2025.
Councilmember Enríquez has deep roots in San Joaquin County. His public service journey began at 13, where he served as President of the Lathrop Youth Advisory Commission, leading the initial efforts of getting the first skate park built.
After graduating from the University of the Pacific in 2010, Councilmember Enríquez moved to Washington where he worked for UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza), the nation’s largest Latino civil rights organization focusing on building a pipeline of Latino youth leadership. Councilmember Enríquez was then selected in 2013 as a National Coro Fellow in Public Affairs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – the nation’s oldest leadership development program focused on exposing young professionals in the nonprofit, government, and business sectors. There, he had the opportunity to work for a Councilmember in the Pittsburgh City Council focusing on public safety and community engagement.
After completing graduate school in 2016, Councilmember Enríquez returned to Washington to gain legislative experience where he was selected as a Post-Graduate Fellow with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). He was placed in a congressional office and the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) during his yearlong fellowship on Capitol Hill.
Currently, he serves as a Director at the Jacoby Center for Public Service & Civic Leadership at the University of the Pacific. Previously, he engaged and informed the nation’s network of LGBTQ elected and appointed leaders as Victory Institute's Director of Constituent Engagement in Washington, DC. There, he also led the programming for the Annual International LGBTQ Leaders Conference, a gathering that attracts more than 600 attendees annually and is the preeminent leadership event for LGBTQ political leadership. During his tenure, he restructured and led a wide range of leadership programs and organized the signature Candidate & Campaign trainings.
Councilmember Enríquez received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of the Pacific and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California’s Price School of Public Policy in Los Angeles, California. He is focused on bringing fresh, new perspectives to District 4, tackling issues such as public safety, homelessness, economic development, affordable housing, and infrastructure.
